Happy New Year and I hope everyone had a good holiday season. We had a great Christmas. Our son and his girlfriend were able to come back from their home in Myrtle Beach to spend several days with us. We had a big Christmas dinner with most of our family members present.
I had a bit of a rough December with health issues. A few days into the month, my back “went out” on me and I had to go to the emergency room for it. I wound up on pain killers and muscle relaxers for three weeks. Then, about two weeks after I was in the emergency room for my back, I had to go back to the emergency room for an upper respiratory infection. After the doctor’s initial examination of me, he said that they would be admitting me to the hospital and I would be there for two or three days. They had me in the emergency room for five hours doing x-rays, CT scans, blood tests and giving me antibiotics by IV. After all that, they gave me three prescriptions and told me that I could go home. I was glad not to have to stay in the hospital, but all of my problems caused me to loose about ten days in the shop. I’m healed up now and working full time again.
Between my health issues and taking time off during the holidays to spend with family, I have not been able to finish some of the knife projects that I am working on. I need to get started making the knives that I have to make for the Master Smith judging in June at the Blade Show. Until I have completed the knives for the judging, I will not be able to get back to the rest of the knives that I want to add to my model line. I would also like to make a couple more knives to take to the Arkansas Knifemaker’s Show in February. So, the rest of my knife models will have to wait. My delivery timeline for completing new custom knife orders is now September of 2007.
I’ve had a couple of requests to put a picture of our log house on the web site. I’ve added picture of the house to the shop gallery page. Our house is actually a remodel of an existing house. We had a three year old ranch style house on the property that we tore the master bedroom wing off of and then added a log addition to that end. The log addition (on the left side of the picture) is hand peeled lodge-pole pine. We had hand peeled logs of the type that were used to build the log addition sawn into slabs for siding and re-sided the existing house with them to complete the log appearance. The interior of the log addition is finished with the hand peeled logs exposed. The interior of the original house is finished in sheet rock. We have done a major remodel on the interior of the original house to create a “rustic” décor.
