Things have been pretty hectic around here the last few weeks. We were blessed with the birth of a Granddaughter on September 20th. Our daughter Erika gave birth to Dacia Amber St. Julien at 10:50pm. Everyone is doing well and, of course, Mary and I think that Dacia is beautiful.
We have been working on staining our house. We have a log house and it is necessary to re-stain the logs every few years. It is a huge project that we have been trying to get to all summer, but it has rained a lot this year and that has delayed our getting the staining done. We have had better weather the last few weeks and are almost finished. Our neighbors drive by watching us out there with our brushes and ladders and I wonder if they are laughing at us and saying, “ How do you like that log house now?”; and thinking that their vinyl siding looks pretty good to them at that moment.
We are expecting to attend the Chisholm Trail Gun Collectors Association Show in Wichita, Kansas this weekend (Oct. 6th & 7th). But, it is possible that we will miss some, or even all of it. Our daughter-in-law, Shanna, is due to deliver another Granddaughter October 10th, but it is very possible that she will go early. We will do what we can to attend the show, but do not want to miss the birth of our Granddaughter.
Speaking of the CTGCA show; I am working on some knives to take to it at this time. I am completely sold out of hunters and Bowies and I am working to finish three hunters for this show. If I can get them done, I will only have the three hunters and the dagger that I made for the Master Smith test at the show.
The October issue of “Knife World” magazine has an article about me, written by Mr. B.R. Hughes. Mr. Hughes also wrote an article about all six of the new Master Bladesmiths for “Knives Illustrated”. That article is in the December issue of KI. Both are excellent articles and I would like to thank Mr. Hughes for doing such a fine job on them. There are several pictures of my knives in the magazines and a full page photo of the five knives that I made for the Master’s test is on the title page of the KI article.
Well, I had better get out to the shop and work on those knives for the CTGCA show. My apologies in advance for anyone who looks for us at the show and finds us not there, but I hope you can understand that we want to be with Chris and Shanna for the birth of their first child.
Have a great October!
