We were blessed with the birth of another beautiful granddaughter during the month of October. Our son Chris and his wife Shanna became the proud parents of Emma Shay Falter on October 16th at 8:23pm. Shanna had to endure 23 hours of labor before the doctors decided to do a C-section. The surgery went well and Emma and Shanna are doing fine. Emma is our sixth grandchild and our third granddaughter. We are now anxiously waiting on our seventh grandchild as our daughter Tara is due to deliver on December 17th.
I just finished a new pocket knife pattern (a new pattern for me). It is a gunstock style folder. It is pictured in the Knife Gallery photos. I am currently working on a collaboration knife with Jean-Paul Thevenot, of Saint-Gilles, France. Jean-Paul passed the ABS Master Bladesmith test this year. He is the first ABS Master Smith from France. The knife that we are working on will be donated to the American Bladesmith Society for auction at the 2008 Blade Show. Jean-Paul made the blade for this knife and I will be making the handle and fittings. He delivered the blade to me last weekend at the Fall Hammer-In in Washington, Arkansas. I have a concept in mind for what I would like to do for the handle and fittings, but I will wait until I finalize the design before I describe it here.
The gunsmithing side of the business has been extremely busy lately. I have been taking in two to three guns a day for repairs. I am still working two days a week on guns and three days on knives. It has been difficult to keep up with the gun work and have had to work some on the weekends to catch up.
We will be attending the Oklahoma Custom Knife Show in Oklahoma City this weekend (Nov. 3rd and 4th). I only have three hunters and the Dagger that I made for the Master’s test to take to the show. I need to finish the sheaths for the hunters today. So, I had better publish this newsletter and get out to the shop.
