I wish you all a good Independence Day and hope that you have an opportunity to spend some of the long weekend with family or friends.
I just completed a custom order for a Chute Knife. The knife is pictured on the Knife Gallery page. I think this is one of the prettiest knives that I have made. I have also just finished work on a pattern for a folding dagger. The dagger is a custom order and will have a damascus blade and bolsters. The handle material will be mammoth ivory. The blade is just under four inches long. It will be a locking liner mechanism. This will be the first locking liner knife that I have made.
For the next several weeks, I will be working on building knives for the shows that I have scheduled in August and September. I am currently making up some damascus billets for material for these knives. I want to put more damascus knives on my table than I have had at the last few shows.
I am no longer taking in any gunsmithing business. I changed the message on my answering machine to say that I am not in the gunsmithing business, took the gunsmithing sign off of the shop and took down my open/closed sign with the business hours. I have done all of this to minimize the interruptions of my knife work by people who are seeking gunsmithing services. I may not answer phone calls during the day while I am in the shop working, but please leave a message and I will call you back.
For the last few months, I and a couple of other Kansas knifemakers have been working on forming a Kansas knifemaker’s association. We sent out information to all of the Kansas knifemakers that we knew of, and to date, we have twenty-four confirmed members. We will be holding the first meeting of the association at 1pm, July 26th 2008, in the Bluestem Room of the Rodeway Inn & Suites in Emporia, Kansas. We will discuss what the membership wants out of the association and make plans for the future of the organization. All interested persons are welcome to attend the meeting and/or join the association.
My next knife show is the A.G. Russell Show, in Rogers, AR. I hope to see you there!
